The app
Pipeline plugins: Flow and Kitsu
New. JOS has two optional plugins that connect it to a studio's production tracker:
- Autodesk Flow Production Tracking (formerly ShotGrid): its page.
- Kitsu, the open-source production tracker (cg-wire.com): below.
Neither is installed unless you choose it. Each is small (Flow about 400 KB, Kitsu about 100 KB).
Installing
With the installer. The installer has a Pipeline plugins section with one box for each plugin, both unticked. Tick the ones you use. To add or remove one later, run the installer again and change the boxes; the installer remembers your last choice.
Without reinstalling. Download the plugin:
Unzip it into your plugin folder, %APPDATA%\Jungle of Sharks\JOS Compositor\plugins on Windows, so you get ...\plugins\Flow or ...\plugins\Kitsu. Then restart JOS. To remove it, delete that folder.
The Script Editor (Window menu) says at start-up how many plugins loaded and shows any plugin's error. A plugin in your own plugin folder is used instead of the installer's copy with the same name. Studios can also share plugins from a network folder named in the JOS_PLUGIN_PATH environment variable.
Kitsu
The Kitsu plugin works with any Kitsu server. It talks to Kitsu's API with your email and password; it doesn't need gazu or anything else installed. Its menu is Kitsu:
- Settings...: the server address (for example
https://kitsu.mystudio.com), your email and password, and two folders: - Work Root, where projects are saved;
- Render Root, where renders go.
Test Connection checks it. The password goes to the system's password store (the Windows Credential Manager), never to a file.
- Browser... (Ctrl+Alt+B): the productions, sequences and shots, and each shot's tasks. Open a task's version, or create the first one. Nuke versions (.nk) of the same task open too: JOS imports them and saves the result as the next version.
- Create Write Node (Ctrl+Alt+W, also Kitsu Write in the Tab node picker): a Write whose path follows the project's version. Its buttons set the path, make a Read of what it rendered, and Publish to Kitsu: the render goes to the task as an H.264 movie for review, made through the project's display transform.
- Save Next Version (Ctrl+Alt+S).
- Update Kitsu...: posts a comment and a status on the open project's task.
JOS offers to author tasks of the Compositing and 2D departments. When your Kitsu has none of those departments, every task can be opened. A studio can change the list, folder names and paths in a settings file named by BB_PIPELINE_CONFIG (the [dcc.jos] section).
Episodes of TV-show productions aren't shown as a level of their own yet: their sequences are listed directly.
The Kitsu plugin is free software under the GNU GPL version 3; its licence comes with it (LICENSE.txt).
